Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is the placement linked skill training initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Working under NRLM, it uses skill training as a tool for empowerment and poverty alleviation.

How does DDU-GKY work?
DDU-GKY invests in private education and skill training experts to start advanced, modern and well-equipped training centres near you. State Governments have a dedicated department or State Skill Missions, who monitor and evaluate these training centres and projects. In these training centres, you will find qualified trainers who will not only train you in a job-oriented skill, but also in using computers, tablets, learning to talk in English and other such life-skills. And after you complete your training program, they will find you a job with reputed organizations.
In the training centres, you are entitled to completely free training. In residential training centres, you will get free accommodation and food. In non-residential training centres, you will get Rs. 100/- for every 8 hours of training.* If in your district, then for 2 months, if in your state, then for 3 months and If you are placed in job outside your state then for 6 months. And this money, the Rs. 100/- for 8 hours and Rs. 1,000/- per month will be directly transferred to your bank account. The training centre will also help you getting bio-metric identification cards and a bank account. And after you are placed in a job, the training centre will also pay you a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000/- per month for 2-6 months depending upon where you are placed.

DDU-GKY has 600 Training Centres across the country. In the next 2-3 years, more than 1,000 Training Centres will be operational and training people like you for various jobs.
DDU-GKY is providing training in more than 100 job-oriented trades. In the next 2-3 years, there will be more than 220 job roles to choose from, that will give you access to well-paying jobs in reputed organizations.
Who is eligible to apply?
If you are between 15 and 35 years of age, are currently poor but have the commitment and discipline to work hard and change your life, you are welcome.
Anyone who has completed even a little bit of schooling is welcome. If you are unemployed or work as labour in fields, you are welcome. If you earn a daily wage doing odd jobs, you are welcome. If you belong to a family where at least one person has worked for 15 days in the in previous financial year under MGNREGA scheme, you are welcome. If you belong to a family where one person belongs to a Self-Help Group (SHG), you are welcome.
You just need to be willing to step forward and work hard every day to change your life.
The programme is especially geared towards diversification of incomes of disadvantaged groups, including the following,
Persons belonging to particularly vulnerable groups
Persons with disabilities (PWDs),
Transgender and other special groups (rehabilitated bonded labour, victims of trafficking, manual scavengers, trans-genders, HIV positive persons amongst others)
From the national level, we ensure social inclusion through:
50 % funds earmarked for SCs and STs,
15% for minority groups,
3% for Persons with Disabilities
In each training program, 33% will be women
What skills can you choose from?
From a welder making the Maruti car to a Sales Person selling premium shirts to a Back-Office professional working on computers, you can choose from over 250 trades or job-oriented roles DDU-GKY offers training in.
Skilling programs have been designed keeping occupational standards in mind. Occupational Standards describe what individuals need to do, know and understand in order to carry out a particular job role or function. DDU-GKY offers training programs with curriculum as recommended by NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) or SSC (Sector Skills Council) of NSDC (National Skill Development Council). The Certificate of Training from NCTV and/or SSC is recognized by most employers as a symbol of learning and achievement which will get you a job with higher salary.

What do you need to get enrolled into a training program?
You need any one of the following Identification cards/ certificates:
BPL Card of self or your household (where your name is also mentioned)
MGNREGA worker card of any member of your household, with a minimum of 15 days of completed work
Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) card of your household
Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card of your household
BPL PDS card of your household
NRLM-Self Help Group identification or certificate for any member of your household
SC/ST Certificate issued by competent authority, with any of the above
Disability Certificate issued by competent authority, with any of the above
Benefits to candidates
Completely free skill training at the Training Centre. There are no fees. There are no registration charges. There are no examination or certification charges. There are no placement charges.
Aadhaar Card or similar bio-metric Identification Card.
A Bank Account in your name.
Completely free food and accommodation in a residential training program.
Rs. 100/- for every 8 hours of training attended (workday) transferred directly to your bank account.
Free uniform, books and learning material.
Free access to a computer at the computer lab with working internet, one computer per person.
Free access to a tablet PC at the training centre (not applicable in some training centres) to use and learn.
DDU-GKY Skill Training Certificate from NCVT or SSC upon successful completion of the training program.
Job Interviews and placement opportunities at no cost.
Post Placement Support (Stipend) of Rs. 1,000/- per month for 2-6 months as per programme guidelines
Free counselling and guidance from the training centre or Migration Support Centre.
In case of Industrial Internships, you will get:
Upto Rs. 4,500/- support for one time for travel to or from the placement to or from your home
Upto Rs. 5,000/- Stipend for 12 months from start of job upon submission of proof.
After 12 months of successful completion, a job with a minimum salary of Rs. 10,000/- per month.
You could also be placed in a foreign job, with a minimum salary of US$500 per month (Rs. 30,000/- approximately).

Get enrolled with your Gram Panchayat or Gram Rozgar Sewak, who in turn will recommend the nearby Training Centre or its mobilization staff to meet you and offer you counselling and guidance
Give a missed call to 98100-1MORD or 98100-16673. We will call you back and ask a few questions like where you live. Answer them correctly and we will get a mobilization team from a nearby training centre to visit you in your home
Whichever way you choose, we will reach out to you, visit you in your home, and talk to you, your parents, friends and others. We will then take you to the nearby training centre and be with you till such time that you enrol.
What’s new at DDU-GKY?
Bare Foot Technician: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has been working in villages to create usable assets like water reservoir for drinking water as well as irrigation. Some of these assets require planning and experts to manage their construction and maintenance. Even you can be one of these Experts.
